How Free Mind Hive Got Its Name

The Origin of Free Mind Hive: A Name Born from Struggle, Faith, and Community

The name Free Mind Hive is more than just a title; it represents a deeply personal journey of struggle, reflection, and divine inspiration. It is a name that encapsulates the essence of our mission and the profound experiences that led to the creation of this organization.

A Moment of Reflection Amidist Struggle

In 2014, Sarah Tushemereirwe, one of our co-founders, found herself bedridden, in pain, and struggling with severe mental health challenges in a new country. She had battled these challenges since she was just six years old, enduring years of misunderstanding, despair, and repeated attempts to end her suffering. Yet, in this moment of profound hardship, Sarah began to question her survival—why had she been spared after the one-month comma in 2013? What purpose did God have for her on this earth?

It was during this period of deep reflection that Sarah reached out to her sister, seeking ideas for a business or a project that could give her life meaning. Her sister's response was simple yet profound: "If there was one thing you could do, what would it be? Do you know you can touch lives?"

At first, Sarah struggled to see how she could make a difference while confined to her bed. But as they continued to talk, Sarah realized that her true desire was to ensure that no one else would ever have to endure the same pain and isolation she had experienced. She wanted people to have good mental health, to be resilient, and to be free—free to become who God created them to be, free to fulfil their purpose, and free to handle the stresses of life.

A Mother's Love and a Shared Vision

Sarah's mother, Monday Edigold, who had stood by her side throughout her struggles, also played a pivotal role in the formation of Free Mind Hive. As a caregiver with firsthand experience in supporting a loved one through mental health challenges, she understood the importance of creating a supportive environment for families facing similar battles.

Together, Sarah and her mother prayed and discussed how they could help other families going through mental health challenges. Their shared vision was to create an organization that would offer the support, understanding, and resources that were so desperately needed.

The Birth of a Name

In 2018, while brainstorming ideas for a website with a friend named Allan, Sarah initially decided on the name "Free Mind" to reflect the core of their mission—promoting mental health and freedom not only from the chains of mental illness but to achieve one’s true potential. However, the name was already taken. Undeterred, Sarah, her mother, and Allan prayed for guidance in choosing a name that would truly capture the essence of their vision.

It was in this moment of prayer and reflection that the idea of "Hive" emerged. They realized that just as every worker bee in a hive plays a crucial role in the production of honey, every individual in a community has an important contribution to make. A healthy mind allows us to bring our unique gifts to the world, and without each person's contribution, the community is incomplete. The "Hive" represents this community of support, where every person matters and where we work together to create a nurturing environment for healing and growth.
